Explore Forgotten Barrel Winery

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — The Escondido area has more than 15 wineries or vineyards.

Ferrara’s former vineyard has been transformed into a rustic-chic spot called Forgotten Barrel Winery. The winery is located at 1120 W 15th Avenue in Escondido.

ABC 10News walked into one of Southern California’s premier wineries and found the tranquil hideaway was brimming with sounds and celebrations.

Once a month, the historic site, now restored and reopened by owner Roger Grove, serves up a mix of arias and roses.

It was an opera night at Forgotten Barrel. As patrons sip Chardonnay, Syrah, Zinfandels and more, the sound and smell fills their glass.

Grove created the space for wine and opera – a pairing of two art forms.

Grove purchased Ferrara Winery in 2016, improving the grounds, opening a tasting room and bringing in well-known Napa Valley veteran John Robert Eppler.

Eppler’s artisan wines use fruit sourced from San Diego County, Central Coast, Sonoma and Napa Valley.

The transformation of this once neglected sanctuary is once again making its mark on the wine world – and proving it will never be “forgotten” in Escondido.

Meanwhile, there are ways the City of Escondido has been a leader in North County when it comes to business. ABC 10News anchor Kimberly Hunt spoke to Mayor Paul McNamara about it, and the best parts of town may not know.
