LEWISTOWN – Round-trip transportation, as well as pickup and delivery from grocery stores and restaurants are among the most requested services by the public today. Craig and Jennifer Rutherford seek to accommodate the community and provide these services.

The Lewistown Taxi Service, located on Electric Avenue, will allow caged pets to participate in the ride as vehicles are non-smoking, sanitized between passengers and regulated by the Public Utilities Commission. Their mission is to provide safe, reliable and professional transportation services to residents of Mifflin County.

“We strive to revitalize the community by providing the best transit option for people on the go,” said Rutherford. “The best part of our business is our people. We are a family business with “old fashioned” family values. When you call us, you typically interact with owners as a driver or dispatcher. »

The owners acquired the location on October 1 and currently have a total of 10 employees between drivers and dispatchers. Rates consist of a $2.50 initial charge, then $1.50 per mile with a 50 cents per minute wait time charge. The service is currently available 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Rutherford said as the business grows, they plan to expand the fleet of vehicles. This will bring more employment opportunities to Mifflin County residents.

“In the near future, we will be offering ‘delivery services’ such as transfers to and from the airport”, said Rutherford. “Eventually we will expand to offer winery, brewery and distillery tours.”

Employees also seem to enjoy being part of the new company.

“I really enjoy meeting all the interesting people in town,” said driver Chip Cramer.

“I really like it here. They are very pleasant people to work for”, said dispatcher Candy Royer.
