The 10 most powerful wine brands in the world 2020

Market analyst Wine Intelligence released a report detailing the world’s most influential wine brands.

The Global Wine Power Index 2020 examines the performance of dozens of brands in 20 key markets, such as the UK, US, Japan, Australia, China and the Netherlands, asking questions about surveyed just over 22,000 people around the world.

The survey explored a number of factors to estimate a brand’s influence with consumers, such as brand awareness, how often it was purchased, how much consumers “affinity” with. the wine (ie them ‘), and how likely they were to recommend it to someone else.

We took a look at the 10 top-rated wines in the report and how their perception among consumers has changed over the past year, from Bordeaux blockbuster Mouton Cadet to Chilean giant Concha Y Toro’s successful label chain.

10. Cadet sheep

Score in 2020: 29.5

Score in 2019: 38.1

The overall score of French giant Mouton Cadet has dropped considerably since last year, causing the Bordeaux label to drop five places in the Wine intelligence report. Its best markets for consumer confidence are, unsurprisingly, France and Belgium, where it scores 90.7 and 73 out of 100 respectively, and it is still among the top 3 most powerful brands in Belgium.

The label dropped points for a number of factors consumers were asked about, including brand awareness, purchase rate, and affinity.

9. JP Chenet

Score in 2020: 29.8

Score in 2019: 36.6

8. Frontera

Score in 2020: 30.2

Score in 2019: 28.3

A member of the Concha Y Toro childish wine group, Frontera has climbed seven spots to reach No. 8 in this year’s report.

7. Carlo Rossi

Score in 2020: 30.7

Score in 32.5

6. Gato Negro

Score in 2020: 35.4

Score in 2019: 31.9

5. Bare feet

Score in 2020: 38.9

Score in 2019: 29.2

The Barefoot score has improved dramatically over the past year and is most popular in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. California wine giant Barefoot entered the seltzer water game this year with a range of four seltzer-based white wine in the United States.

4. Jacob Creek

Score in 2020: 39.0

Score in 2019: 41.1

Owned by Pernod Ricard Winemakers, Australian giant Jacob’s Creek is regularly at the top of the wine brands list thanks to large investments in distribution and marketing, which translate into strong sales. It was also named in Brand Finance’s Australia 100 report, ranking eighth in a list of the country’s strongest brands. it was the only beverage brand to feature in the top 10.

However, the brand has lost a spot in the Wine Intelligence report since last year, when it was tied for 3rd with Gallo.

3. Gallo family vineyards

Score in 2020: 42.2

Score in 2019: 41.1

Owned by the Californian company E&J Gallo, Gallo Family is the most influential American brand in the ranking.

E&J Gallo is responsible for 40% of all wine production in California. It owns 24,000 acres of land and over 100 different wine brands, but as the company has started to invest more in its high-end portfolio (i.e. wines selling for over £ 10 a bottle) , Gallo Family is the most lucrative. He performed best in the United States, with an overall score of 68/100, but received high overall scores in each of the 19 markets where he was surveyed. Gallo Family is one of the most widely distributed wines in the report, which partly explains its high score.

2. Casillero del Diablo

Score in 2020: 49.9

Score in 2019: 51.4

Owned by Chilean wine giant Concha Y Toro, Casillero del Diablo is regularly ranked in the top 3 of Wine Intelligence’s annual report. The brand dominates its domestic market in Chile, but is also highly regarded by wine buyers in Colombia and Ireland, thanks to a good purchase score.

It is one of the most valuable brands of CyT. In the UK, retail sales of Casillero del Diablo were up 13.9% from 2019, with supermarkets and grocery stores on the move selling more than two million nine-liter cases in the 52 weeks leading up to 4 January.

  1. Yellow tail

Score in 2020: 61.1

Score in 2019: 60.3

This is the third year in a row that Australian brand Yellow Tail has led Wine Intelligence’s Global Brand Power Survey. The brand enjoys wide approval and ranks in the top 5 among consumers surveyed in Canada, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, UK and US.

While there was an overall decline in global brand awareness of Yellowtails, the study found that it had a good connection score and a loyal following, which helped it maintain its top spot.
